May 26 2013 “The Lake” A “MUST READ”

The Lake

For the Bicentennial Of the United States of America, there was commissioned a series of Books, one for each State. Minnesota’s was a great read, and I wish I would have purchased the book. Right now I can not find who published it or who the author was, so here goes from memory.

Minnesota has a very diverse and interesting topology, it goes from flat rich farm land to heavy wooded lumber country. So where is the divide? Everyone in the Twin Cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis goes “Up North” to “The Lake”! More on “The Lake” later. The North Country of Minnesota begins where it always did even 100 years ago, and that’s where rich Farm Land meets Tree rich Forest. About Pine City Minnesota, 85 miles north of St. Paul, just listen to The Radio Station of the North from Pine City Minnesota. Only problem is Pine City is in the lower 1/3 of the State, don’t believe me draw a line, the middle of the state of Minnesota is closer to Bemidji MN. But we listen to “The Radio Station of The North” in Pine City, because that’s where the trees begin, hence “The North Country”.

Now Good old Minnesota the “land of 10,000 Lakes” just look at the License plate of every Minnesota Car, it says so right there! But how big is a Lake? Does it have a Name? The Minnesota State legislature got into that can of worms many years ago, the so called my district has more lakes than yours has debate, which ended with “It cost to much money to change everything that has “10,000 Lakes” written on it than what its worth!

So Minnesota has 11,842 “Named Lakes” larger than Ten Acres, and if you include “Unnamed lakes larger than 10 acres, Minnesota has 15, 291 lakes.

Now back to “The Lake”, What happens on every major summer Holiday, Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor day? People come back to the office, and around every water cool is the fish story of “the one that got away” or my stringer of fish was bigger than yours, and just where did you catch that many fish? RIGHT “The Lake”, everyone goes fishing, relaxing swimming at the same “Lake”. Think they are going to tell you how to get to their “Secret Fishing Lake”, no way they got it at “The Lake”, now you have to figure out which one of 11,842 it was!

That’s what I “MEAN” when I say, “THE LAKE”
